Choose your Canal Boat holiday with Sally Narrowboats

What is a short break?

Short breaks are three- or four-day holidays, and start on Fridays, Saturdays, Mondays or Tuesdays.

What time do we collect and return the boat?

Arrival time is between 2 and 4pm. Boats must be returned by 9am on the last day of hire.

Where can I leave my car?

Outdoor parking is provided for your car.

Do you provide the bedding and towels?

We provide all bedding and towels. Extra pillows are available on request.

Should I bring my hair dryer?

All our boats come equipped with a 12 volt hair dryer so that’s one less thing to pack!

So the boats are really well equipped?

Yes! All our boats have central heating, spacious well-equipped galleys with electric fridges and gas cookers, colour televisions, radio/CD players, and spacious shower rooms for your comfort. We also supply some toilet roll in our loos, but do bring along extra. Please ensure that they are not quilted and please don’t use wipes.

What about fuelling the boat?

You pay a fuel deposit when you book your boating holiday; £70 for a short break, £110 for a week. The boat is handed over ready fuelled, on return to the marina at the end of your holiday period the boat will be refuelled and any difference to the deposit paid will either be refunded or charged.

What if we have never been boating before?

Don’t worry! About half of our guests have never been in a narrow boat before. We will give you instruction on safe boat handling and operation. Each boat also has a comprehensive skipper’s manual as a guide during your holiday.

Can you provide a skipper?

No, we are unable to provide a skipper. All our holidays are self-drive.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Canals are intrinsically safe places and are not very deep. We do advise that you wear life jackets even if you can swim. Life jackets are available free of charge and should be requested on arrival.

Can I bring my dog or cat?

We welcome well-behaved dogs and cats (maximum of three per boat).

Will I be warm enough?

All our boats have heating to keep you warm throughout the year. Most have wood-burning stoves and we can provide additional bedding and throws to keep you cosy in the cooler months.

Can I bring a bicycle?

Yes. There is limited roof space on the boats and you must protect the roof paint from damage. Bicycles are not permitted in the boats.

Can we recharge mobile phones, tablets, laptops and video cameras?

All our boats have 12-volt lighter sockets and small 240-volt inverters are available. Bring your home charger and in-car phone charger ( if you have one) so you can charge your equipment.
